On Sunday 1st July bandv’s PR Account Director Angela, Administration Manager Emma and our PR Account Manager Nicole joined thousands of women to take part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life, on Southampton Common.
The morning began with a heart-wrenching speech from a family who tragically lost their 9-year old daughter to Cancer earlier this year. The family shared their story to emphasise the importance of research and how crucial events such as Race for Life are in making a difference.
After an inspiring speech from Cancer Research UK’s Area Events Manager about how much Race for Life has raised in the 25 years it has been running for, it was time for a fun warm-up.
Feeling energised team bandv set off on the 5k Race for Life. Despite the soaring temperatures, Angela, Emma and Nicole picked up the pace of their power-walking and managed to complete the 5k in just under an hour.
Race for Life is now 25 years old and, in that time, fundraisers have managed to raise over £800 million which has helped to fund life-saving research. This year’s Southampton events (the Race for Life 5k, 10k and the Pretty Muddy Run) are expected to raise a whopping £285,000.
Thanks to the generous support from family, friends and colleagues, Emma, Angela and Nicole have managed to raise over £200 to support Cancer Research UK who help to fund vital research that will hopefully one day lead to a cure for all types of Cancer.
It’s not too late to sponsor bandv’s Race for Life trio! Anybody who wishes to donate can do so by visiting team bandv’s fundraising page.
