This Sunday 4th February is World Cancer Day – ‘a day to unite in the fight against Cancer’ so what better time to shine a light on our super-star Administration Manager Emma who every year takes part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
This will be the 9th year that Emma will be taking part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life and she’s already signed up to this year’s Southampton event on the 1st July.
Initially Emma took part in her first Race for Life to help support a close friend who had tragically lost both of her parents to Cancer. Since then, Emma has taken part almost every year and for Emma, Race for Life is a date firmly scheduled into her diary each year.
Five years ago, Emma experienced the devastating impact that Cancer can have first hand, when her father was struck by Cancer and passed away shortly afterwards. This has made Emma even more determined to carry on taking part in the UK wide event which raises vital funds for Cancer Research UK. Now, every year, Emma displays a message on the back of her t-shirt to say that she is running in memory of her dad.
“When you see all the messages about why people are taking part, whether it’s in memory of a lost loved-one or somebody who has battled or is still fighting Cancer, that’s what motivates me to keep going back every year to do my bit.”
Emma says that for her “Race for Life is a very humbling experience” and when she sees the “sea of pink” on the day, “it gives her goosebumps”.
Emma has already signed up for this year’s Southampton event on the 1st July but this year she will be joined by two other members of team bandv, PR Account Director Angela Breckenridge and PR Account Manager Nicole Prema.
Asked how she feels about the addition to this year’s event, Emma says,
“It will be lovely to be part of a team and I’m really looking forward to it. I hope it’s the first of many!”
Cancer Research UK helps to fund vital research that will hopefully one day lead to a cure for all types of Cancer.
